A few years ago, I never thought I would become an avid yoga fan. But lo and behold: Yoga is totally relaxing and even works against my mental restlessness. Ever since I discovered this, I've been sneaking into the yoga classes at our SchlossSpa, especially during a multi-day retreat. Because there are always a lot of interesting and, above all, deeply relaxed people. I found out from Alex this morning that Sarah, our ski and yoga instructor, will be conducting a 3 day yoga retreat this September. Sarah grew up in the Lake District of Northern England and has been practicing yoga for over ten years. It helps her find balance, calm, flexibility and strength - both in the body and in the mind.
«I did my training in Vinyasa Yoga. The main focus is on the connection between movement and breathing. It's about strengthening and energizing the body. I love a dynamic and playful practice and I bring that into my classes. I encourage my students to try new postures, challenge their bodies and move in ways they may never have done before, in a safe and supportive environment."
«You don't have to be afraid: I also offer relaxing Slow Flow courses that calm the body and mind and promote a good night's sleep. This is particularly popular after an active day on the ski slopes, a hike or a bike tour. What many people forget is the importance of breathing in yoga. Pranyama is particularly suitable for this, where we concentrate primarily on the breathing techniques.»
"You're absolutely right, that's the beauty of yoga. Our yoga retreat is aimed at everyone who wants to relax from everyday life and recharge their batteries. It's perfect for connecting with the beautiful nature here in Zermatt and getting back in touch with yourself. Whether you are new to yoga or have been practicing it for many years, all participants with any yoga experience are welcome.»
“In fact, the body has to work a little more at 1,600 meters than in the usual yoga studio. The right preparation is all the more important: It is best to enjoy the energy-rich and delicious breakfast at the SchlossHotel beforehand to prepare your body for a day full of activities in the mountains. We attach great importance to the fact that all participants feel comfortable. So we encourage them to do the yoga and mountain activities at a level that feels right for them."
“In addition to yoga, the retreat also includes other activities in the fresh air, such as a guided hike with a picnic. Then you should definitely stop by the SchlossHotel in the CBD-Spa to get some rest. It is the first of its kind in Switzerland and provides plenty of relaxation and recreation. Especially if you let yourself be pampered with a CBD massage. And because balance is the most important thing, of course, the delicious afternoon tea with coffee and cake should not be missing.»
«I think it's great to bring our guests closer to the facets of yoga. There are so many types of it: Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Rocket, Yin Yang or Hot Yoga. What stays the same is the location. Zermatt is also special for me. Accordingly, we practice yoga both outside in the midst of untouched nature and surrounded by mountains, meadows and forests and of course the view of the Matterhorn, as well as in our beautiful studio in the SchlossHotel. I love watching how the participants of the retreat get into the flow here in the fresh air and are full of new energy at the end.»
I can only agree with Sarah. You know how much I love my home town of Zermatt. And one thing is for sure: you will definitely meet me at the yoga retreat in September, accompanied by Sarah - even if you can't see me, of course. But if you see a flying towel, don't be alarmed, ghosts sweat too!
